CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
“The ‘door of faith’ (Acts 14:27) is always open for us,” so begins Pope Benedict XVI’s apostolic letter designating a Year of Faith, beginning October 11, 2012 and concluding with the Solemnity of Christ the King on November , 2013. Marking the 50th and 20th anniversaries respectively of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, this Year of Faith is meant as an opportunity for us to arouse our desire to profess and live our Christian faith fully with renewed conviction, confidence and hope.
As the Holy Father mentions in his letter, we can cross the threshold of the door of faith “when the word of God is proclaimed…” The Catholic Services Appeal provides the means to proclaim God’s word in Northern Nevada through a variety of ministries to children, high school and college students, adults, people of different cultures and languages, those hospitalized and those incarcerated. It takes people to proclaim God’s word and so CSA funds the formation programs of future and current priests, deacons and lay ministers as well as the pastoral ministry of some of our rural parishes. Through the Northern Nevada Catholic and the TV Mass, God’s word is spread far and wide and reaches the homes of Catholics and non-Catholics. And as God’s word is best proclaimed by deeds and not words alone, CSA provides through Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada assistance to those in need. These are just some ways the Church opens wide the door of faith to others.
Your participation in the CSA is vital way for the Church in Northern Nevada to fulfill the mission Jesus Christ entrusted to us. Your generosity enables us to do what no single parish can accomplish and reach a wider community. Together we can renew our faith and bring the light of Christ to people.
